- Temperament:
- They are active, adventurous, curious, and stubborn, but they are also fun-loving and playful. The breed is confident, lively, affectionate towards family members and also very protective of them. Affenpinschers are somewhat territorial when it comes to their toys and food, so they are not recommended for very small children. It is best suited for a family who likes a show and has a sense of humor.
- Grooming:
- The Affenpinscher requires minimal grooming. Brushing and combing weekly is a must, plucking done when necessary. Show dogs require stripping. Hair sometimes grows in the corners of the eyes, causing irritation; they should be dealt with promptly. This breed sheds little to no hair.
- Training:
- This loyal little dog enjoys being with its family. It needs consistent, firm training because some can be quite difficult to housebreak. They are quick to learn, but do not respond to repetition. The training should be varied because the dog can easily become bored.
- Exercise:
- The Affenpinscher is active and energetic. They do well in apartment setting but do enjoy daily walks and a chance to run, so a small fenced yard is a big plus.
