Afghan Hound

- 45 to 60 pounds (20 - 30 kg)

- Temperament:
- An Afghan Hound can be aloof and dignified, but happy and clownish when playing. A very noble and courageous breed. They do well with older children and can do exceptionally well with other animals providing they are socialized around them.
- Grooming:
- The Afghan's coat requires quite a bit of attention. Baths are necessary once a week to keep the coat from matting. Brushing the coat of this breed can make it more easily matted and can cause problems. A special air-cushioned brush or pin brush is useful for grooming. This breed is an average shedder.
- Training:
- The Afghan Hound has many cat-like tendencies and is not slavish in its obedience as are some other breeds. The Afghan hound has a leaning towards independence. Owners should not be surprised if their Afghan hounds sometimes choose to ignore commands.
- Exercise:
- Afghan Hounds love open spaces and must be allowed to run free in a safe area as well as having long daily walks. It needs a minimum of 30 minutes of free galloping per day.

- about 13 - 14 years
