Temperament:
The Airedale Terrier is very loyal, and can be a joy to own, but can be difficult at times. The Airedale Terrier, like most Terriers, has been bred to hunt independently. As a result, the dog is very intelligent, independent, strong-minded, stoic, and can be stubborn. This dog loves to chase small animals, but can do exceptionally well with cats and other dogs, given the dog has had proper socialization. Alert at all times Airedale is not aggressive but is fearless.
Grooming:
The hair of this breed is hard and crisp making it rather hard to groom. The hair should be plucked about twice a year, but for dogs that are to be shown, much more intensive grooming is needed The Airedale Terrier can shed heavily or not at all depending on the cut of the coat.
Training:
This breed can be very willful and stubborn at times. Being smart, Airedales pick up what is wanted from them very quickly but don’t like repetition. Changing the routine or taking a play-break is much more productive than trying to force the Airedale to continue as they are a stubborn bunch. Airedales require constant reinforcement, or they may decide to start ignoring commands. For the same reasons, they need socializing with other dogs early.
Exercise:
This dog loves to run, swim and play with a ball. Without enough attention and exercise the Airedale Terrier will become restless and bored and will usually get itself into trouble.
Life Expectancy:
about 10 - 12 years
Litter Size:
average 9 puppies

England
