Temperament:
They are very loyal, friendly and intelligent dogs. Due to their friendly nature Malamute is not regarded as greatest of guard dogs. Although highly intelligent they can prove to be very stubborn. They may howl like wolves when feeling excited, sad, or lonely. Malamute has a strong pray drive so be careful around unfamiliar small animals.
Grooming:
The Malamute has a double coat, which is a woolly undercoat and longer guard hair. They shed relatively light with the exception of twice a year when they lose their entire undercoats. Grooming twice a week is sufficiant enough. Make sure you provide them with plenty of shade during the summer as they overheat easily.
Training:
Very intelligent and stubborn they can be a handful to train. They get bored with repetition quickly so it’s best to keep a variety of stimulation both physically and mentally. Ther require early socialization.
Exercise:
They are highly energetic dogs that need plenty of space to run and play. They are great at weight pulling. Be careful with exercise over summer months.
