Basset Fauve de Bretagne

Basset Fauve de Bretagne Photo
Weight:
26.5 - 42 lbs. (12 - 19 kg)
Height:
12.5 - 15 ins (32 - 38 cm)
Color:
Fawn, gold-wheaten, red-wheaten
Temperament:
Charming and affectionate the Basset Fauve is a typical hound with the instinct to track, scent and flush. He is a good companion for children and will get along well with other animals if familiarized with them from a young age, but care should be taken with small pets such as rabbits which are a natural prey for a small-game hunter.
Grooming:
A weekly brush and comb will keep him well turned out.
Training:
Bred to work quite independently he has a mind of his own and needs an owner who is equally determined in character and can teach him, kindly and with consistency, what is expected of him in the way of good manners. Positive reinforcement methods with genuine praise and rewards for good work will be the most successful.
Exercise:
He was developed to do a full day’s work in the field and so at least two long walks each day are needed. It is recommended that he should not be allowed off-lead on walks as his superb sense of smell may lead him to track for many miles and become lost.
Life Expectancy:
12 - 14 years
Litter Size:
average 6 puppies
Country of origin:
France
