- Temperament:
- The Dogo Canario possesses a calm, steady temperament and is gentle, trusting, and loyally devoted to his family. In some situations, the Presa can be aggressive toward animals, other dogs, and even humans and so early socialization is essential. He possesses a strong protective nature and is a highly capable guard dog, being naturally suspicious of strangers. They are not recommended for first time dog owners.
- Grooming:
- The short, dense coat of this breed is easy to maintain. Weekly brushing or wipe down with a dry towel or damp wash cloth is all that is necessary.
- Training:
- The Dogo Canario can be a challenge to train. They require a firm owner who is willing and able to meet the challenges a young, dominant puppy may pose.
- Exercise:
- An active, well-toned athlete, the Dogo Canario requires regular exercise to keep his muscles in peak condition.
