White predominates with black, black and tan or tan markings

Temperament:

This energetic breed is playful, mischievous, independent and bold. It is always ready to play with children, however it has been known to bite. Known to be determined and impulsive, this breed will kill birds and small animals if given the opportunity. It considers cats to be prey and may try to dominate other dogs. It is fairly reserved with strangers and is totally devoted to its family, making it an excellent watchdog.

Grooming:

Their coats are easy to manage. You will want to use a brush which has strong bristles. You will also want to wash and shampoo them when they need to be cleaned. They shed a standard amount of fur.

Training:

The Smooth Fox Terrier is a willful dog that will take every opportunity to challenge authority and attempt to dominate. This is why it is important that they are socialized and obedience trained from an early age. They will not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. Training must be done with firmness, consistency and patience. They are not for inexperienced owners.

Exercise:

Fox Terriers need lots of exercise. If you are living in an apartment, they will need to be taken for extended walks. Fox Terriers were bred to hunt, and will chase, cats, birds, and other small dog
