Temperament:
In general, Irish Setters are friendly, enjoy human company, and actively look for other dogs with which to play. They are affectionate and like to be petted. Irish Setters are excellent with children. Due to the breed's need for frequent activity, this is an inappropriate dog for inactive families or apartment dwellers. Irish Setters are not aggressive, although can bark to protect the area from strangers. Possibly due to their stubbornness and resistance to obedience training, they have been marked as being stupid, but are really quite intelligent.
Grooming:
The Irish Red and White Setter is an average shedder with a soft, flat coat of medium length. This dog should be brushed regularly to prevent tangles, and extra attention is usually required during the shedding seasons. Baths or dry shampoos should be given only when needed.
Training:
Work with your Irish setter very early on in obedience training. It is a high-strung breed and will quickly become unruly if it is not reminded to behave. Learn to challenge your Irish setter as you train her, by varying the activities you do with her. Irish setters get bored quickly and can be stubborn at times.
Exercise:
Daily strenuous exercise is a must for this breed. This can include games and running free in a fenced yard or out in the country. A lack of exercise can result in restlessness and frustration in the Irish setter, and it may be more difficult to train.

around 10-12 years

average 8 puppies

Ireland
