King Charles Spaniel

King Charles Spaniel Photo
Weight:
10-18 pounds (5-8 kg.)
Height:
12-13 inches (30-33 cm.)
Color:
Blenheim (rich chestnut on pearly white background); Tricolor (black and white with tan markings);Black and Tan (black with tan markings); Ruby (rich reddish-brown all over)
Temperament:
The breed is highly affectionate, and some have called the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel "the ultimate lap dog". Most dogs of the breed are playful, extremely patient and eager to please. As such, dogs of the breed are usually good with children and other dogs. A well-socialized Cavalier will not be shy about socializing with much larger dogs. However, the extremely social nature of the Cavalier KC Spaniel means that they require almost constant companionship from humans or other dogs, and are not suited to spending long periods of time on their own.
Grooming:
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an average shedder requiring an average amount of grooming. Weekly brushing is sufficient with extra attention being given to the fine, feathered hair on the ears to prevent mats and tangles from forming there. Hair on the feet and between the pads should be kept trimmed and the ears regularly cleaned.
Training:
Cavaliers are easy to train but require early socialization as a puppy to overcome its natural timidity. Cavaliers make great family dogs. This breed also seems to do fine with first-time or novice dog owners.
Exercise:
Cavaliers don’t need a lot of exercise but they love to go on walks.
Life Expectancy:
around 10-15 years
Litter Size:
average 2-6 puppies
Country of origin:
United Kingdom
