- The Landseer has a good stable temperament. He is very self-assured, intelligent, loyal to his own people, fairly gentle in character. He is great with children, and if socialized from early age great with other dogs too. Most Landseers will also defend their home and property, if necessary.

- The Landseer has a moderately long, water-resistant double coat. To keep the coat free of mats, daily brushing is required. These dogs are moderate shedders, though they do tend to shed more heavily with the seasons and can require extra grooming at those times.
