Lhasa Apso

Lhasa Apso Photo
Weight:
13-15 pounds (5.9-6.8kg.)
Height:
10-11 inches (25-28cm.)
Color:
Golden, sandy, honey, dark grizzle, slate, smoke, parti-colour, black, white or brown.
Temperament:
Lhasa Apsos tend to be alert and have a keen sense of hearing. They are bright and outgoing, but some tend toward wariness of strangers (not as many as one would tend to think). Wariness does not mean unwarranted aggressiveness but having a discerning attitude towards strangers; people approaching the dog simply need to show that they are a friend They are very affectionate but can also be very possessive, independent and bossy little dogs. Problems arise when potential owners mistake this particular breed for a typical toy lap-dog, which they definitively are not
Grooming:
Lhasa Apsos long and dense coat requires frequent grooming. In order to prevent mats and tangles you should brush your dog daily. Their eyes and ears need regular cleaning too.
Training:
They are very stubborn dogs and are not as easily trained as perhaps a labrador or collie. If they do not want to do something there is no way you will manage to force them. They will do what they want, when they want. They are one man dogs and extremely loyal to their owners... though some might say the owner is in fact owned by the Lhaso Apso!
Exercise:
They enjoy being taken for a walk.
Life Expectancy:
around 10-15 years
Litter Size:
average 4-5 puppies
Country of origin:
China (Tibet)
