Color:

Entirely white or predominantly white with tan, lemon or black markings, or any combination of these colours, preferably confined to head and/or root of tail. It comes in two varieties smooth and rough.

Temperament:

The Parson Russell is a happy, bold, energetic dog; they are extremely loyal, intelligent, and assertive. Their greatest attribute is their working ability, closely followed by their excellent qualities as a companion. Unlike some modern breeds, Parson Russells have one type, hunting. Hunting ability is bred into them. It is their nature. The unique personality of this feisty terrier is rapidly gaining popularity, but they are not a dog for everyone, especially first time dog owners. While adaptable to a variety of environments, they are first and foremost bred to hunt.

Grooming:

All coat types are easy to groom. Comb and brush regularly with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. Show dogs must have their coats striped.

Training:

The Parson Russell Terrier can be difficult, determined, and willful. As such early socialization and obedience training is highly recommended. Firm, fair and consistent training is best for this dog.

Exercise:

Thay require regular and consistent exercise to maintain their temperament and to occupy their minds. While outdoor activity and exercise is essential, the Parson Russell should never be permitted to roam unattended, even in the most remote country setting. The Parson Russell is, above all, a hunting dog- and will go to ground at every given opportunity, to any quarry-they are afraid of nothing.
