- Temperament:
- The PBGV is a happy go lucky dog who loves to be kept active. They can be stubborn, independent and bold but they are always willing to please. They are highly energetic dogs that love to roam so really the country life setting would be ideal for them. They get on well with other dogs, children and strangers.
- Grooming:
- The coat requires regular grooming with brush and comb. Keep the ears, and especially the ear passages, clean. About once a year pluck the loose and dead hair out by hand. If you wish to show the dog, the neck should be emphasized by removing more hair from this area.
- Training:
- The PBGV is energetic and independent but they are not naturally obedient. They must be taught to know who is top dog in their family situation. They require consistent training and socialization, especially throughout adolescence.
- Exercise:
- Because these hounds need substantial amounts of exercise, it is necessary to take them for long walks regularly. The larger Grand Bassett Griffon is used to hunt for hares and roe deer. They usually adapt well to becoming family pets.

- around 12-15 years
