Temperament:

The Welsh Springer Spaniel is an active, loyal, and affectionate breed. Some might be "reserved" with strangers, but should not be timid, shy, or unfriendly. The breed is well known for being affectionate to all members of the family, especially children, and accepting other pets of the household with a friendly, playful attitude. They can be very clingy toward their owners earning them their nickname "velcro dogs."

Grooming:

This breed requires minimal grooming. Brushing with a firm bristle brush on regular bases is all that is needed. During their heavy shedding period brush your dog daily. Check the ears regularly for grass seeds and signs of infection.

Training:

The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a hard worker that is always seeking to please. Their tail is always waging. Training this breed requires a light touch, as they are sensitive to correction and will shy away from harsh treatment. Building the Welsh Springer's confidence is important to training success and only accomplished with a good understanding of positive training methods. Be geneseous with praise and rewards. This breed enjoys and excels in agility, fly-ball, tracking, obedience, and, of course, hunting.

Exercise:

The Welsh Springer was bred for work and endurance, and as such needs exercise to keep healthy and content. Without adequate exercise, a dog may become bored and design its own (usually destructive) means of keeping busy, often to its owner's displeasure.
