Crufts, officially recognized as the world's largest dog show, was founded in 1891 as an all-breed dog show, and is now an essential part of Britain's social calendar. It is spread over four days and five halls and covers over 25000sq meters. It provides visitors with the most varied and interesting canine program that they could possibly wish for. Breed judging, thrilling demonstrations, club displays, obedience competitions, Agility, Fly Ball, and Gundog competitions. One of the most popular displays was of new dog sport called Dancing With Dogs, performed by Mary Ray and her dog Quincy. It is a choreographed routine, set to music, between human and canine, that has taken the dog world by storm.
For those who wanted to treat themselves or their dogs there were over 400 trade stands raging from major food manufacturers, dog training centers, dog memorabilia, to a host of specialist publishers. The must-see was the Discover Dogs area, where there were some 200 breeds, all eager to meet visitors, accompanied by their breed expert owners who offered helpful advice regarding 'choice, care and training' of the individual breeds.
Between 9-12 March, 22000 top pedigree dogs from 178 different breeds from all around the world had competed in the hope of going forward for the prestigious Best in Show title. The title was rightfully won by Australian Shepherd bitch, Am.Ch. Caitland Isle Take a Chance.
